Negotiating £47,000 saving for developer
We advised on the conversion of a vacant town centre office building in Surrey to eight flats. The Council applied a tariff system requiring the developer to contribute more than £50,000 towards local infrastructure. We successfully negotiated a reduction in these contributions, showing that the Council had not followed the Secretary of State’s advice, as it could not specify where the contributions would be spent. The Council also had not considered the demographics of future occupants of the flats who would have a lower demand on services than the Council’s tariff system suggested. The contribution required by the Council was reduced by £47,000 to £3,600.
